In grades 1st through 3rd, we strive to engage and educate all children in a secure and Christ centered environment. Elementary students are challenged with an integrated core curriculum that enhances the individual strengths and abilities of all children. The early childhood years are a time to discover talents, celebrate strengths, and strengthen skills that make children confident throughout their lives.
Our students work in a self contained academic setting that includes reading, grammar, writing, math, science, social studies, and religion. In addition to our core curriculum, students are enriched by weekly classes in art, music, spanish, computer, and physical education. Each year, students participate in several field trips and educational speakers visit our school for presentations.
Our students grow spiritually by learning to help others in our community and our world. We gather coats and other items in a winter clothing drive. School wide our students have packed Christmas shoeboxes that were distributed around the world. Classes provided items to fill backpacks for students in need in our community. Throughout the year, our school will collect can food items and toiletries to assist our Center of Concern.
In 4th and 5th grades, our academic focus is to establish a meaningful curriculum for our students and to prepare them for lifelong achievement. We strive to educate faith-filled leaders of tomorrow and build a solid foundation of learning and spiritual growth.
4th and 5th grades incorporate the team teaching approach allowing the students to change classes for Language Arts and Math. We feel this makes the transition into The Academy (grades 6-8) much easier. Teachers specialize in their particular subject matter and provide a variety of instructional strategies to better meet the needs of each individual student.
The curriculum that is followed meets the requirements of the Diocese of Birmingham as well as the Alabama State Course of Study. In addition to the required academic classes, we provide students with experiences in art, music, computer, Spanish, and physical education.
Our students learn about sharing the love of Christ by helping others in our community and our world. Throughout the year our classes participate in various projects that demonstrate our love for others.
“Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of God.”
We offer additional systematic instruction that reinforces critical strategies taught in the core curriculum classes. These children have a 3-day a week intervention that supports struggling students at various grade levels. This strategic instruction supports growth in remedial skills. We engage students in a variety of intervention systems and strategies.
Our enrichment class is offered to children in grades first through fifth. The selection is based on the child's achievements gathered from several criteria. The children receive one hour a week instruction. We strive to provide students with experiences in a wide variety of topics, issues, and disciplines. We work to develop and exercise brainpower. Creative thinking, logic, and critical thinking skills are utilized. The goal is to discover and develop each child's gifts and encourage their self-directed learning.
